Custom Engineering
You imagine it. We build it.
Some of the most demanding imaging applications in the world don’t fit a catalog. That’s where GSS custom engineering starts.
GSS standard products cover a wide range of missions. But some applications push beyond what any catalog can anticipate — extreme environments, specialized sensors, unique deployment requirements, or performance specs that simply don’t exist off the shelf.
Our engineering team thrives on exactly those problems. We bring the same precision, open-architecture approach, and obsessive attention to performance that goes into every GSS product — and we apply it to whatever you need built.
What custom engineering looks like.
Specialized sensor integration
When your mission requires a sensor that doesn’t fit a standard payload — custom thermal cameras, high-speed imagers, hyperspectral systems, or configurations that have never been built before — we engineer the platform around it. GSS thermal imaging systems have been used by NASA for high-altitude observation applications that demand performance well beyond commercial specifications.
Peripherals & system integration
Custom engineering isn’t always a ground-up build. Sometimes it’s integrating a wireless controller, designing a vibration isolator for a specific mount, or solving a problem that only surfaces in the field. When customers bring us footage and say something isn’t right, we dig into it — and we come back with a solution, not a shrug.
Extreme environment builds
High altitude. Open ocean. Sub-zero temperatures. Extreme vibration. We’ve built systems for environments that most imaging platforms would never survive. If your operating conditions are unusual, that’s not a problem — it’s a design requirement.
Built into the ecosystem.
GSS works closely with leading camera and optics manufacturers during their development cycles — integrating new sensors and lenses into our platforms before they reach market, and feeding real-world performance data back to the people building them. Our engineers see things in the field that lab engineers don’t, and vice versa. Those relationships make our products better. They also mean our customers get access to what’s coming, not just what’s already shipping.

How we work with you.
Custom engineering starts with a conversation. You tell us what you’re trying to accomplish — the mission, the environment, the performance requirements, the constraints. We tell you what’s possible and how we’d approach it.
From there, we work collaboratively through design, prototyping, and testing. Our open-architecture approach means we’re building on a proven platform and adapting it to your needs — faster to develop, more reliable in the field, and easier to support long-term.
